The International English Language Learning Program

The International ELL is a full-time program that offers intensive academic language courses that are outcomes-based and learner-centered. The classes focus on:listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Skills are developed through a range of contemporary themes, topics, and activities.

Program Structure and Student Progression

Upon arrival, students are assessed and placed according to their language proficiency into one of the four courses in the program. The assessment takes place the week before classes begin. Applicants to the program are assumed to have at least an intermediate level of English language proficiency.

We offer four different levels of classes:

·         International English Language Learning 1

·         International English Language Learning 2

·         Academic English 1

·         Academic English 2

Students who successfully complete Academic English 1 with a grade of ”B“ or higher meet the language proficiency requirement for Bow Valley College’s Early Learning and Child Care program and Disability Studies program, or can proceed to the Academic English 2 level.

Students who successfully complete Academic English 2 with a grade of “B” or higher meet the language proficiency requirements for most Bow Valley College and SAIT career programs.
