About Langara

Located in beautiful Vancouver, BC, Canada, Langara College started in 1965 as part of Vancouver City College and in 1970, it opened its West 49th Avenue campus. On April 1, 1994, Langara College was established as an independent public college under the Provincial College and Institute Act.

Today, Langara is one of BC's leading undergraduate institutions providing University Studies, Career Studies, and Continuing Studies programs and courses to more than 21,000 students annually.

In 1970, we opened our 49th Avenue campus and invited the community to make us their first choice for accessible, quality education.

Four decades later, Langara College is recognized as a leading undergraduate institution with a reputation for providing exceptional learning opportunities. Through the collective contributions of our outstanding faculty and staff, our programs and services continue to grow and innovate to meet the changing needs of our community.

Looking ahead, we anticipate ongoing success as more people make Langara their college of choice. We will continue to be an educational leader, setting the standard for higher learning, and supporting our broadening communities for years to come.

At Langara College, we are deeply committed to being part of a sustainable society. We understand that the world’s resources are finite and need to be used conservatively and wisely. We know that our choices, both big and small, impact on our world and future generations.

As an educational institution, we have a responsibility to lead initiatives that positively contribute to our community. Our goal is to foster, and provide leadership to create more environmentally sound, socially just, and economically vibrant communities. As part of the College's Academic Plan, we are making it a priority to:

Create and strengthen programming that encompasses the cross-disciplinary nature of sustainability
Advocate and model sustainable practices
Build sustainable partnerships with employers, community partners, and alumni

The College is proud of its green efforts and policies, and we look forward to continuing to increase environmental, financial, and social sustainability at Langara, in our city and in our world.

Strategic Plan

Langara College’s Strategic Plan was developed in 2009 and our priorities renewed in 2013. The Plan is our vision for the future. It builds upon our regional reputation as a leading undergraduate college by focusing on our existing strengths, while growing new programs and services.

To achieve this vision, Langara is focusing on four key areas over the next two years:

Employee Sustainability
Financial Sustainability
Communication & Advocacy

With the final document in place, the College can begin to implement the strategic priorities into the College's day-to-day operations. We look forward to an ongoing process of engagement, review, and adjustment to allow us to build on our previous successes and tackle new challenges.

We will provide a mid-term report in the fall 2014 to highlight our accomplishments and achievements and as necessary, re-align priorities for the coming year.
